I like the design, but practically speaking, how easy is it to get black barrels from BL or a similar source? They must be fairly rare and needing 20+ must cost a pretty penny!!
-
Thanks Timento and Quarryman! As both relatively new Eurobricks members, I would like to welcome you to the Pirate Forum!
-
Very nice!! now you just need some Zerglings to roast! Maybe you can try some Star Craft II creations when more is known of the game!!
-
I believe the picture I posted was of the Santa Maria in fact! Good observations Timento!

I am going to stay home and study for the bar exam... how fun is that? Other Minnesotans can be found at the Taste of Minnesota on Harriet Island, which I would imagine is very similar to the taste of Chicago on Lake Michigan... Anywho, I do plan on going out to an "American" dinner with my girlfriend and catching some fireworks later these evening. America and fireworks ON!

Oh the suspense! This is a nice ship for a first attempt. I am glad people are trying to use the gray hulls, so then when I get around to using them, everyone will have adapted to them! Anyhow, like I said, a good first attempt and I like the color scheme. It works very well on this ship!!
-
Yes, the guy second from the right sure does bare a remarkable resemblance to our fearless leader...
-
Good question... How many do I already have!?! I have 8 regular marines and 1"Captain of the Marines" on the Sienna, and I think I have 18-20 regular marines and 1 Captain of the Marines on the Phantom. I should also make some more Marines and put them on the Arbiter II, then I could move those soldiers to front Brighton. The Sailors... well I think I have around 10-15 on the Arbiter II and about another 20-25 on the Phantom (or just lying around). I also plan on making the neat little "Classification" pictures for regular soldiers and then one for "Heroes" of my universe such as Admiral Burress, Captain Certich, La Tortuga Oscura, and Governor Brickard.

I am glad you have finally started on this ship. The United States could use more ships on this forum. Happy Birthday USA! I will be monitoring this thread closely!
-
So I snapped some photos of the classes of men that will on the Phantom. The first set of pictures were lousy, so I attempted again. Mush better the second time around... I am not sure which background is best, so feedback is always appreciated!! First, the Sailors... And the Marines...
-
I would recommend a couple of bomb vessels... but remember, you'll have to get through these as well... and when it is done...
-
Everyone has some odd desire to attack me right now... *sniffle* *sniffle* *tear* :'-( Agreed! La Tortuga Oscura lurks out there somewhere... This discussion made me think of something... I noticed that most of these big ships MOCS are Imperial-ish, which is more historically accurate than having large Pirate ships... but Lego, of course, always made the Imperial ships much smaller. Maybe it was because the Imperials also had large fortresses (at higher price points) while the pirates only had hide-aways, but even so, I think TLG should have considered making one round with a small Imperial outpost and a large Imperial ship... that surely would have spiced things up and given them opportunity to continue the line!
-
Sometimes that just happens! Like I said, do a Google image search and you will see many carracks that look even more like your ship... Check them out HERE and HERE
-
it is the only one of Lego proportions that I have in my apartment! I have the Sienna here too, but the is only somewhat helpful as it is not Lego sized.
-
It reminds me a lot of a carrack! Wiki Carrack Link Google search bring some images out that look even more like this ship with high stern and bow castles with a small mid section. Yes, it is definitely cartoony, but there are some very good design elements and it looks quite good from that perspective. I like the bowing in and out on with the slopes on the front of the ship especially!
-
Thank you Mr. Miner, now if only I had the graphical skills to put a nice background on a few of the picture. I have been thinking about this as a possibility. I would need to change my color scheme, so the ship would have to be Spanish or something... It would need to be like 40 studs wide though.... I have also been thinking of making a couple of corvettes... or a schooner or two... I really like the look of schooners, so I may just stick with a few prefabbed-ships until I get inspiration for something big. The Spanish have the original Arbiter which was renamed the the Venganza... not the Arbiter II Observe... Venganza Arbiter II

Well I always have called him Benjamin Burress, I figured if he gets knighted, then he can be Sir Burress ;) The Z is just because I can't seem to get the name Cerberus without putting something in front of it!

Can we get a scale check over here? I think one thing about this ship that gets lost in all the photos is how large it really is. So for comparison I have a modified version of the Armada flagship to see how much larger the Phantom is. The length is shown best by the first picture, though I wish it was more straight on. The width can be seen here. The Spanish ship is a bit dusty! You will also notice the entire Spanish ship's length is only from the back of the Phantom to the yard arm on the mizzen. The height is best show here... not even close. All in All, I would say the Phantom is a "fair" amount larger.

Hah! It is even funnier that the definition of the word makes even less sense to me than the word itself!! Well now I know that it is an Aussie exclamation I can affirm my thanks for the compliment!
-
Welcome! The Pirate forum's Administrator is Australian (not me, Mr. Phes) so I know for sure you aren't the only one! Any time is a great time to get back into Lego ® Enjoy your time here!
-
It would be nice if there were ANY pirates sets right now! Btw, it appears you have excellent taste in 80's/early 90's music. Thanks Freddo. Maybe you'll have to do some landscaping on this MOC like you did on your windmill MOC! Strewth? I am not entirely sure what that means... but thanks... I think ;-) Sorry to anyone who's comments I didn't get to address directly! I thank everyone for the compliments! Keep MOCing!
-
meh- maybe I will just stick to building MOCs and not trying to win elections!

Replying to my own quote... well I had an idea that I thought I would share... What if we made these imaginary fleets via a draft... Let me explain... 1. We would say that there are going to be 4 fleets or whatever, and then everyone who wants to participate will have say so in a thread, or this one. 2. 4 "Admirals" will be selected by random lot. The order they are picked will be the order of the "draft". 3. The first admiral will pick any other participating member to be in his "fleet". Then the next Admiral will pick and so on. We could do every other round in reverse order so the fourth admiral will pick fourth and fifth and the first admiral would pick first and eight. -If we are uncomfortable with an actual "draft" like this (though it could be fun) we can just continue to draw lots placing every forth person in the same fleet. So lot 1,5,9,13,17 etc would be in one fleet and 2,6,10,14,18 would be in another. 4. We can then allow each fleet to pick a name for itself and design a flag or a logo with a back story of their fleet with any/every member participating at will. The common story/world and cool flag/logo would be the main benefits, so it would be wise of each admiral to not necessarily pick members with lots of MOCs, but also creative members who can design logos/flags, and write interesting back stories! 5. We may even, with Phes's approval, be able to make a small webpage for each Fleet on the Classic-Pirates.com website with the logo/flag of the fleet, their back-story, and a listing of the fleets members with a link to their ships. We could, if desired, have each member even add their fleet's flag to their signatures or add the flags on their ships. Letters of Marque or Rogue Imperial ships can account for the difference in LEGO® factions. 6. This idea would require that EVERYONE who wants to participate gets to participate. Even if you have only a single MOC that you want to "add" to a fleet, you can do so, regardless of if it is a ship, fortress or custom torso! 7. There would be absolutely NO degrading of other fleets and no challenging other fleets to WARS or FIGHTS with other fleets. The fleets need not ever interact with each other, they could exist in wholly inconsistent lands and time periods. The idea would be not only would each MOC builder have a natural support group for displaying MOCs, but the fleet listing could have cool common themes in some of the MOCs that we will all begin to recognize, such as flags on ships, and shared characters in different MOCs. Like Phred, for example, has had multiple people's "Characters" on the DDW. Within a fleet, then, a common admiral character might show up for inspections and visit to launch new MOC ships or commission new fort! What does anyone/everyone think?
-
There is a very interesting mix of themes here! I have to say I like the Windmill and especially the roof on the Mill and the water fall best in this MOC! Welcome to the Eurobricks forum, and we hope to see you often in the Pirate Forum! Do you have any more or future MOCs to share?
-
Maybe, zouave, we need you to tell us how this is going to work! Are we going to make up fleets/ battle groups based on voluntary associates or fictional factions? Or are we going to do it by continent or country, such as one fleet would be the "North American Fleet" and another would be the "European Battle Group"? How do we chose ranks or admirals or captains? Do we have volunteers? Or do we choose amongst ourselves after the fleets have been made? Or maybe it is automatic based on whoever has the largest number of ships or guns... What about Land based MOCs? Are they included in our fleets/assets? What about uncompleted MOCs? Are they to be not included? Give us some idea of what we are doing since this is your thread!
