I think this is a solid representation of what a set could look like. Good work.

That doesn't mean there won't be some construction ideas that will be Oliphant useful though! I am also curious to see what kind of inspiration we can pull from them.

Jeepers! I am gone for one day and this happens! This thread has been getting crazy and it seems to be nearly the only one that ever gets reported as having this kind of non-sense go on. I understand that everyone is very passionate and everyone has great ideas and suggestions for this line, but it seems like all that happens is arguments and fights lately. I know that LotR is a HUGE part of the History forum and one of the favorite topics of conversation is what LEGO should or shouldn't produce. I don't mind the discussion as long as it is civil. Cross that line though, and I will lock this thread and make everyone have a mandatory cool down period so we can continue in a civilized manner.

Book II - Nocturnus: Guild sign-up and Discussion

I don't know. I doled out the responsibility, but it seems to have stalled. Maybe we need to pick it back up! -
Book II - Nocturnus: Guild sign-up and Discussion
ZCerberus replied to ZCerberus's topic in Guilds of Historica
There was going to be another guild challenge, but it hasn't taken off yet. -
Oh my goodness. Too many wires being crossed in this thread. Any information on the Hobbit 2014 should go in the Hobbit 2014 thread. I think since we don't know and likely WON'T get any more Hobbit sets beyond 2014, I am locking this thread and the 2014 Hobbit information will go in that thread.

I updated the SECOND post of this thread with links to the entries (thanks for compliling them regulator kabel). Respond in this thread if we missed your entry!

Well if we build the index, I can merge the index portion into one of the stickied threads. I also agree the stickies are out of hand, and I need to "free" a few of them soon. I would sort the index by guild first. kabel, you can make the index in this thread or in a new thread and I can merge it into one index when it is ready. I would suggest anyone who knows of a race that needs to be included in the index, include a link to a MOC that includes that race so it can be indexed. The Nocturnus Tribes challenge entries do NOT need links in this thread as we can pull them quite easily from the Nocturnus Guild thread.

Good work, but looks like you need a little photography lesson! Two quick suggestions to help eliminate the blurriness. 1) Set your camera to "macro" mode when taking close-ups. The macro setting is the one that looks like a flower on the camera. 2) To avoid shaking the camera when you snap the picture, put you camera on a timer to take the pictures 1 or 2 seconds AFTER you push the button. That will eliminate the camera shakiness when you depress and release the button to take the shot.

I'm glad you DO have a sense of humor in there somewhere! No idea on the missing poly numbers. Then you don't totally agree with me, do you... but yes, the average might not be the best evaluator. Then again, cheapest might not be either. If I wanted 5 orcs and the cheapest place only had 1, then add 2.50 per figure to get them at all the different places. Maybe the "in quantity" price is a more fair evaluator for figure prices.

This is NOT true. I think it tends to be MORE expensive to buy the bricks AND figures off Bricklink to complete a set. Try to get all the parts for Market Street or the Millennium Falcon and tell me what it costs. Heck, go average price for something small like the recent Forest Ambush set and see if you can get all the parts for less on Bricklink. Why can't I? Because it crushes your argument? The point was people CAN find deals on the smaller sets and they can buy them in retail stores while you usually can't get the same discounts and you certainly CAN'T buy giant exclusives at retail shops. Let's say Eowyn is going to be in a set. She can be either in a $50 set, or a $500 set. I can promise you right now, he will be MUCH cheaper on Bricklink if she is in the $50 set. Again, for figure collectors, the less expensive and according to you "worse" set will be better for them. It's great that you are still on the $900 Minas Tirith set or nothing train, but other people don't need to be along for the ride to have valid reasons for wanting something else. I think this is becoming a flame war. Let's agree to disagree and not peep back and forth anymore on this point.

I disagree with Alcarin. I would also prefer smaller sets. I believe assuming smaller means "worse" is making an assumption that might not be true. Why someone desires/values a set is completely different from one person to the next. For me, I never keep sets together because I am a MOCer. As such, I want more parts variety and odd parts in quantity in affordable sets and more minifigures than I want a display model. Minifigure Bricklink prices can also be strange because they tend to be 2.50 to 3.00 for even "ordinary figures" and way more for more exclusive figures and if I get the whole set I might spend an extra $2 or $3 but maybe I'll get $6 or $7 worth of bricks as well. Look at Uruk-hai Army- I know it is no longer in production- but it had 1 Eomer, average BL price, 7.91, 1 Rohan soldier Average price 8.39, 1 Uruk with hair average price 3.81, 1 Uruk without armor average price 5.20 and 2 Uruks with armor avg price 5.78. Price of all the figures- $36.78, that price does not including shipping or accessories or bricks and maybe it takes a few WEEKS to get your bricks, or even worse, they never send your bricks at all or they get lost in the mail. I bought a ton of Uruk-hai Army on clearance at Walmart for 15.00 - 21.00 depending on location. Even at the 21.00 mark, I would have had to spend almost double on Bricklink to get the same figures in just one set, and again, I didn't get the extra bricks or accessories if I had Bricklinked. Bricklink may often be a more affordable way to get brick, but when we factor in clearance prices and the "cost" of uncertainty and having to wait for bricks for arrive, then it might not always be the optimal way to go. I think we need to be careful about telling people their thoughts or opinions are wrong or illogical, we can disagree without making people believe their thought process is wrong and that there is only one right way to participate in this hobby. Wouldn't your philosophy teacher be annoyed that you are proposing all these absolutes?

Simple but effective. I like it.

Book II- Chapter 1- Category C : The Cellar
ZCerberus replied to Gunman's topic in Guilds of Historica
I am not a big fan of Lego parts strewn about to look like water or grass, but aside from that, these builds are absolutely fantastic. The colors are beautiful and the detailing is great. Keep up the good work! -
Well we need to do a few things before Challenge II can launch. We need to determine the winning side of Challenge 1 so we can potentially factor that into the next guild up. We also need to get two "regular" members to join the story team for the next home guild to be embroiled in civil war. My very strong recollection is the next guild up is... AVALONIA! As you may recall, if Avalonia is your guild, this applies: -You may be able to join the “story team”, which will help develop the struggle within your Home Guild, if your fellow guild members elect you by popular vote. -You may be able to join the “story team” by having the best build in a “pop-up” challenge announced by your Guild’s Core Leader. -If you do make the story team, your character will represent one side of the struggle in your Home Guild’s civil war. If your side wins, you will be the leader of that guild for future story purposes! You may also be allowed certain other powers and responsibilities that will be developed as the story unfolds. Avalonia, your Core Leader is working on it as we speak! If your home guild is not Avalonia, you have some time on your hands before Challenge II is announced and you are assigned a side. Freebuild, develop your own character, join the Eurobrick's Pirate's team work contest, or venture out into the History forum to see what's crackin' there!

Very nice.

I was wondering when you'd pop-up. Very nice.

Oh brother- where have you been? The Guilds of Historica have building competitions going on nearly all of the time. In fact, one is finishing up today! See all the fun and builds here.

Because you guys CAN'T read or becuase it wasn't quite clear, we're officially making the deadline midnight tonight. I will make it clear in the future by formatting it like this "Your entry will be accepted so long as it is still X (final day entires may be submitted) anywhere in the world" No more disappointment Mikey, get that thing in today and it'll be qualified for entry! No you didn't, not anymore, get it in ASAP people! I can see how the language I used was not clear. Hopefully it is better now. Sorry guys, get those entries in!
