Infection - Confirmation & Discussion
Siegfried replied to Quarryman's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Maybe it's from the song Lieutenant Uhura sung. -
It is possible, but you really don't have much choice. Some viruses do embed in image headers and the like, but these are easily detected. (Interestingly today I'm rebuilding a computer that hasn't been formatted for about 5 years... but I have a network to spread the files across so it isn't as hard.) My advice is copy across all the important data files, none of the replaceable programs (re-downloading is better than copying across a virus), wipe the system drive, re-install, then use a free virus checker (I've heard Panda is OK) on the external before running/viewing anything.

I concur. I don't run any (free or otherwise) and I have about 5 computers in my house. The last time I did was Norton 95! I was so pissed off that it refused to run on Win98 even when they were mostly the same I swore vengeance! All you need is common sense, and that you can't buy. I download things like porn from time to time, and I'm trouble free. I even have installations over 5 years old that still work perfectly. In your case however I would re-format. It's a lot faster.

It's said by Ambassador Kosh in the episode "Believers". The full quote is; "The avalanche has already started; it is too late for the pebble" Kosh used to speak in riddles that sounded odd at first, but generally made a lot of sense when you knew what he meant. In this case he was asked to interceed and let their son die when the doctor wanted to save them. He had already been saved without permission, thus he saw it wrong to be against that stance. My favourite Kosh quote is; Ahh, I loved that show... but I'll shut up now. I'll keep an eye out in the future. (I suppose that means most people missed "and so it begins" too. I have a sample of that for alarms on my computer! ) -

"it is too late for the pebbles to vote". Nice B5 reference. -
Nothing. It just has greater sentimental value. I only swear on that one in extreme cases. I've got a great story on that one, but my wife would kill me if I shared it.
-
Seriously. I swear on my left testicle; it is not the prize. The prizes are known by no one at this stage. Look at last years; the dates match.

Multi-theme Ralph_S has been making stunning MOCs again! Firstly, a Kenworth W900... ...and also a CHP Police Interceptor. See both here!
-
That was last years data that I missed. Honestly, no one is sure about what prize is for who... even CopMike! I've fixed it now.

This is getting silly. I can't see the rules changing any time soon though.

It's a rare day when I don't preview a topic at least three times!

There are winners with names of 15 characters or more. It's just a co-incidence.

Yeah, the "1342.67% of total forum posts" is a give-away! In reality he's actually done about 7000.

Really? I don't recall being able to do it when I first joined. For what it's worth, there hasn't been any recent decision to change this. It might have changed the last time we re-installed the site, but I just looked at the old board settings and the permission was only enabled for Fellows, just the same as here.

No I didn't, and no you can't have it. I like that bunny!

Is EB still an exclusive adult site?
Siegfried replied to The Crazy One's topic in Forum Information and Help
Well it is a bad question, and it's one we don't ever answer. Why someone is banned is generally obvious, including the one time an ex-Staff member was banned. No further details will be given. Feel free to ask the person involved for more details, but that's the most you'll get out of me. -
I keep them; I don't sell much! I've got hundreds of CDs stored in boxes. True, I could sell them and get a few bucks, but for one, I'd legally have to delete my MP3s, and secondly I prefer to have physical copies of things. One good reason to keep them is so I can re-encode them as storage gets cheaper. I used to encode mine at 320kbs, but now I could easily use a lossless format or even raw wave files. I'll be doing that soon. (Low bit-rate MP3s, that is 128kbs and lower sound horrid.)

Ahhhghhh! Dark Ages! Have fun! He'll be back. Hopefully he's smart enough to keep his LEGO.

I convert all my CDs to a high bitrate MP3 (or wave file in some cases), store them on a server and I play them on computers using a custom music player that from most rooms can randomly picks songs based on ratings from my wife and I. In the room I work from I have an TEAC A-X1000 50 watt amp connected to Minimus 7s. I've heard neither but... I'd go for the Onkyo. It's won several awards, it has a digital in where the Denon does not and it also supports 4 ohm speakers, which can be a good indication of load tolerance.

It's OK. We try to keep sales topics here as otherwise all the sales throughout the world can bury news that is relevant to all.

Discussions about Buying and selling goes in BSTF... I'll move this there now.

Actually this is exactly what they do, but no system is perfect. Each bag is weighed, and the boxes themselves are weighed. But what must happen in some cases is the bags land in the boxes and fall out prior to being sealed. I buy a lot of LEGO, and in total I've had zero missing parts. I've had a few cases of incorrect parts (like the fig in the AT-AT set, which they replaced), mismolded parts (replaced), and defective motors (both replaced, and I was given an extra). In addition I've had a few sets where a mistake was made in the set design and the correct parts were thrown in, leaving me with extras. I have no complaints.

What link, what entry, and what do you expect? In case it helps, the daily calender link is supposed to go to the MOC of the winner... and it was working at the time. However with Brickshelf being unreliable the page scripts never finish resulting in the entry not being shown. I'll look into it tomorrow.
