General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
Siegfried replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
Please, no more. We have a forum for discussion about movies; take it there please. Also, show some common sense (this isn't directed at anyone in particular) and don't ruin the movie for others... -
Yeah, it's true, but it's not as bad as it seems. The first one lasted about 2 years, and it then had a (invalid I think) heat issue. I then had it replaced with a refurbished unit via Sony, which after about a year had a dud Blu-ray drive. I still use that one for download-able games, but I needed to buy a new one for disc games, and that one I've had for over a year. We use the PS3 a lot; as a family it averages at least 20 hours a week, sometimes a lot more. Thus in terms of entertainment value I have no regrets.

Because I'm on my third PS3...

Every OS has vulnerabilities, even Linux. You should know this; after all, most of Sonys servers run on Linux and if you believe the rumors that you've been spreading, their servers were not up to date. Providing fixes for these vulnerabilities isn't a security issue, it's a sign that the providers care about security. The whole monthly Patch Tuesday thing was done to make customers happy, so I'm not really seeing your point there either. Have you tried moving a hard drive from one PS3 to another?

Wonderful review! As an owner of 7994 this set isn't highly compelling, but I still haven't got a hull of that design so we'll see! I have a question/photo request; the bucket. Is it the same old one?
-
It's important to note that f-secure themselves think that this isn't actually a Sony controlled site. So it's probably not Sony related and thus not even vaguely related to "Playstation General Discussion". Why all the Sony hate? Why? Yeah, it's rather easy. It's hard when you have to transfer between units (and you lose a lot ) but I've done it twice without major issue. I would warn though that all isn't saved; for example PS1/PS2 saves, mini saves (unless this has been fixed) and game storage data is lost. The latter is generally easily re-downloaded, but some games like Little Big Planet store user data that way; you'll need to back that up first.

More work. You are now EBs "Cache Case Champion".

Then it's not complete... In any case, there really is no need to spam up this topic; people will notice your review.

LDD does not use multi-core CPU?

I'm loving this conversation! It's very nice to see so many programmers on EB. -
With all seriousness, the only advice I can give you is upgrade to a Windows 7 machine. While I'm forced to use Macs at work, I don't have one at home for EB work, so you'll have to rely on our resident Mac users for advice. As a guess, it does sound like a caching issue to me, and as Brickdoctor said the history and the cache are two different things. Yes, this is a feature not a fault. The "back" button is supposed to show you the page before exactly as it was without re-loading it in any way. (Opera does this very well; it even restores half completed posts.) Some browsers will re-load the page, but I consider this wrong. In any case, if you don't want this to happen press the "View Active Content" button; this will create a new page for you so the icons should be updated.

...yeah. So what browser do you use?

Technic Transition Talk
Siegfried replied to Siegfried's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Not as yet... but I have plans! I do agree that this would be a good solution. I think many feel this way. legolijntje had already mentioned this to me... but to be blunt I/we receive a lot of help offers, and most don't end up being finished or happening at all. It's not surprising and I never feel bad towards the member, but these days I don't count on the work being done until it's done. -
I wasn't sure while building it, but with the time frame I had I didn't have time to experiment. When I get it back I might try to add some more blue. Thanks, I'm hoping it'll be back for BrickExpo too... He's already got one in his hand...

Technic Transition Talk
Siegfried replied to Siegfried's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I personally have decided to never do any work on a MOC index ever again. It takes too much time, time that I could be spending making my own MOCs.... Yeah, I do agree, but what give the us the right to decide what is a good MOC and what is not? Many MOCs that I think are horrid others like... and vice versa. Even picking on bad presentation can and has caused trouble in the past. Afterall, badly presented MOCs aren't always lame MOCs. But that isn't the only problem with a MOC forum; as I said, not everyone likes the idea. For example with the Brick Flicks & Comics forum and the Minifig Customisation Workshop we find that often people would rather post in the specific theme for one reason or another. It isn't just a case of breaking the rules... But that's why I'm asking these questions, and I'm getting some great replies. To be honest I'm considering ditching the whole subforum plan... Moving with that plan with the votes at about 20-40% would be one thing, but it's approaching 50%. -

...just to get this out of the way, this isn't going to happen anytime soon. EB used to have a separate MOC forum, which some liked and some didn't. As a result some MOCs went in the MOC forum... others in the relevant theme. Partially for this reason we went for the MOCs-in-their theme solution. I don't think a MOC forum would work. Many MOCs posted on EB are for the more popular themes and it would then be harder to find Technic MOCs... although DLuders would give them a run for their money. -

You can set the board to do that if you want; I have my set to show 30 posts per page and you can sort forums. It is true... but by the same logic since Model Team MOCs are a rarity I can't see members regularly looking for them, regardless of what forum they were in. Yeah. The staff have discussed this over and over, and we do struggle to divide the mess that's left into another forum. In total it's got less than most other forums so if we divide we're left with two messes rather than one. We did consider, for example, putting Military MOCs in "Action", but all things considered it doesn't fit in with other official LEGO themes. Please don't get me wrong; I do agree with you that Model Team deserves more attention and that "Special" is a mess, but how to solve it I don't know. Creator sets for the most part don't get the attention of other themes, but perhaps the recent inclusion of mini-figs will change this... I tend to agree. -

Nice MOC. Yeah, I think TLG have done very well with the new Hero Factory line. Loads of new interesting parts. -

That's part of the idea of the Techniques forum; or have I got you wrong? Sort of. I like things as they are, but I just wanted to know if I'm on the same page as the active members. It wouldn't be enough. I've done the numbers before; it'd end up a dead forum. -
After some thought (and some PMs ) we've decided to experiment with the way the Technic forum is organised. It's all an experiment at the moment; if things don't work they'll go back how they were. The first planned change is to create a subforum for talk about Technic techniques, which I hope to start on next weekend. What else? A MOC forum is a possible idea, but... what do you guys think? I make no guarantee that the winning votes will result in action, but they will be used to help the staff evaluate the future of this forum and EB in general.

Possibly. I joined as I was nagged a lot to do so, and it saves me time trying to keep in touch with friends and family from other states/countries. I've heard that. I've heard that too. I'm hoping that PS+ is a success so they don't need to do that. w00t

PSN is back for me! Basic maybe but that's the kind of knowledge that causes problems, and no it's not. Honestly, why are you arguing with me about programming? Care to share why you would know even 1% of what I know? There's also early access to demos and other stuff like Facebook features (DarthSion would love to use those), but nothing compelling for me.
-
Yes. That's another reason why I'm happy to pay for PS+... (I don't play online games much though so I've never felt the need to pay for the Live Gold service for my 360... I don't use my 360 much either for that matter! )
