Double-post. I will close this one.

Thanks for an entertaining read. I'm not sure the male inhabitant actually had an accident, it might be Michael Jackson trying to enjoy a quiet vacation. The place is a little cramped and the bed doesn't look too spacey either, so I can understand they're going for a bike tour at the end of the review. This set doesn't really give me nostalgic feelings some other classic town sets give me, probably because I focused on Castle instead of Town around the time this came out. And without the nostalgia, this set doesn't really stand out for me. I'm kind of glad it's up to the Creator line nowadays to fill the residential areas in today's table towns, as that at least gives us four walls and a full roof on most buildings. Although I must say I miss the (interior) detailing and the accessories that these town sets used to offer. And yes, there really are some drawbacks to buying second-hand classic town sets. Unfortunately, not everyone cares about cleanliness or an adequate parts inventory.

REVIEW: 9349 Fairytale and Historic Minifigure Set
Rick replied to Pandora's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I really like the idea of the set, but it turned out too generic to get AFOLs excited. The use of only two different heads is really the worst offense. But you have to keep in mind this is designed by the Education division for use in schools. But yeah, it wouldn't have hurt the concept to make it both educational and increase the piece variety a little. It's my favorite duo in the whole set. And apparently (especially in the UK!) it's considered good luck if a bride encounters a chimney sweep on her wedding day. And it is the stereotypical chimney sweep outfit, isn't it? -
REVIEW: Fabuland 3628 Perry Panda and Chester Chimp
Rick replied to Pandora's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I have this! Unfortunately in a pretty bad state. Broken ladder, broken tricycle, and figs in far from perfect state. So it's nice to see what it once looked like. 'Erzählen' would be 'story telling', but since that's a verb, that wouldn't be capitalized in German... Feeling guilty for opening? What were you going to do, stare at the battered box for the rest of your life? -
Congratulations oh mighty Walrus Admin. Here, have some fish. (... runs...)

Mafia School: Fabuland Housewives - The Conclusion
Rick replied to Hinckley's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
It can easily backfire on you as well. Most prominent example is the scum fooling Hinck, Walter Kovacs, and me big time in Bloodbrick. But also in The Forest the mason group was suspicious of my "fishing" - as they interpreted it - before they recruited me. I mainly do it do avoid getting bored during the days. -
Mafia School: Fabuland Housewives - The Conclusion
Rick replied to Hinckley's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Great hosting Hinck. I really enjoyed the pictures and the narrative. Good to see you put at least as much effort into a Mafia School game as you put into the all-stars furry game. Way to go town! I really didn't follow the game that actively, but clearly the pro-active attitude of some town players really helped win this. And... Go Racoons! (Hinck, what do you have against Racoons that you don't include them in your games?) -

The topic that addresses exactly your question still has not disappeared from the first page in the 'Website & Forums' forum. A little research before starting a new topic doesn't hurt.

Mafia School: Fabuland Housewives Discussion Thread
Rick replied to Hinckley's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
I thought Hinck said he wouldn't grade you anymore (as of a certain point in the game) because that might give information about affiliations of players still alive. Don't tell me you missed Lucas Lion's appearance. -
That's probably it yes.

*looks innocently and points at Rufus* -
Thanks for your in-depth review Pandora. While it's better than I initially thought, not even your review saves this set for me. It has some more depth than I thought. I like the idea of the set, with the life guard tower and surf shop, but the execution is just lacking. The silly bridge looks like it's just there to give the set some 'volume'. I'd have preferred it if they would have kept it a bit smaller, but much more detailed. But then again, this set is doomed to be compared to 6543 Sail N' Fly Marina by any AFOL.

Great review Rufus. The first picture of the review is a great presentation of the set. It looks better and definitely more impressive than the official box art. However, sorry to rub it in, I'm glad I managed to get 7994 (in a somewhat beaten up box) at a pretty nice discount a while back. The thing that made this set really stand out when the first pictures of the mid-2011 City line-up first surfaced was the color scheme of the 'building' and crane. But I quickly realized it was solely because of it's resemblance to 6363 Auto Repair Shop (nostalgia ). And while I like the idea of keeping the farm theme alive in this new subtheme, I still would have preferred 'traditional' containers as cargo. The crane is really inferior to the crane in 7994, which allows the reach of the arm to be controlled separately. I like the play features of this set, but the conveyer belt is a little bulky for my taste. The truck is nice, albeit a little simple. The dock could have been really good if they would have constructed it the 'Creator way', with a combination of big plates and 8x16 tiles.

Mafia School: Fabuland Housewives Discussion Thread

Another hilarious day opening Hinck. And way to keep up the pace with this game. -
This was on my blog list... little late, but still...

Did you ever consider a career as a movie director? But damn, you made me watch it.

Wow JJG, this is simply amazing. And you're right, I'm not a fan of rubber band and string used like that, but even ignoring that, this MOC is great. Using the feathers for the roof decoration is very original. And did you hand-paint all those windows yourself? The 'simplified' police striping is still instantly recognizable as Dutch. I just don't think they use red and blue flashing lights, just blue.

Thanks Draggy. It's a great honor to receive the prestigious Mafia Appreciation Tag. And thank you everyone for the congratulations. ... Mmmmm, sausage rolls... And I almost forgot: congratulations def. You certainly deserve it for your involvement in all the games you play (even under the most difficult circumstances) and almost causing a nervous breakdown for many players, me included, in Dr. Bloodbrick's Asylum. -
Sweet ride. I like how you've done the wheel arches and the front grille of the car. Nice work!

I too am much more impressed with the real thing. It looks much better than the pictures. More than the Fire Brigade and the Grand Emporium it is filled with little details and nifty building techniques. The small spaces are very well-utilized. The last two modulars were 'grand', with big interior spaces, but this one has the charm of the Green Grocer again. Not that it can top GG, but I certainly don't see it as 'less' than the other modulars. When you build it, you'll realize Jamie really has managed to surprise even the biggest modular fan again. And if I had to nit-pick about something, it would be the top floor of the town house. I would have preferred a top floor (oriented) like Market Street.

There is also a 'fix' available for the fuel tank, apparently to make it sturdier. This could explain the higher piece count. But there is nothing in there about changes to the shuttle and the booster rockets. edit: I should read the full thread before I post.
