  1. Good review of one of the more interesting architecture sets. The fence pieces (like in the White House set) work really well for creating columns at this scale. The half-stud offsetting on the roof is clever and makes up for a bit of a boring build up til then I guess. The horse-drawn chariot is pretty hard to recreate at this scale and I certainly wouldn't be able to come up with anything more recognizable. It's a model of a real structure and at this scale there are bound to be many similarities.
  2. Just lovely... Nice idea to use leaves for a roof. I like the bunk bed, but the croc-carpet is pure genius. I just don't really like the mix of yellow and tan in the door posts. But that doesn't seem to matter to the croc brothers as they look so relaxed fishing for their evening meal.
  3. Happy birthday to the upside-down people. Or, so you can read it: ˙ǝןdoǝd uʍop ǝpısdn ǝɥʇ oʇ ʎɐpɥʇɹıq ʎddɐɥ
  4. I already saw a picture of this on flickr the other day (but I always prefer commenting on EB). Nice job on the front section, using studs and tiles to create the slope and fixing the indicator lights upside down (not a detail shall go unbuilt, eh? ). The running boards look great using those little panels. And I also like that you have used 7-wide for the back. The white stripe along the side are a nice touch, I just feel it 'interrupts' the roller doors a bit too much maybe. Excellent creation overall, Ricey!
  5. Thanks Fangy. Thanks LGG. Yay FBG. The idea for the headlights obviously came from your Gordon and Brando pickup trucks. And the piston design I think I saw with -zenn's hot rods. Putting the steering wheel on a hinge was not primarily done to make it adjustable, but it's more or less the only way to nicely fit it (without having to resort to a - IMO - too small 'regular' steering wheel). But yeah, it works pretty well with a system minifig as well. Thanks for your comments. And I'm working on another small Fabuland creation.
  6. That's what I thought. Being Dutch, I'm pretty confident I know how to pronounce it. But seriously, the 'ij' is a nightmare for non-native speakers usually.
  7. Well-spotted. More importantly, what's (s)he doing there?
  8. Cuteness! You have really created a unique Fabuland style and, as Rufus already mentioned, I too am impressed at how you take Fabuland wall pieces and make the windows, doors, and cupboards feel like such an integral part of the MOC. The facade looks pretty in tan. Perhaps add another table to fulfill the undoubtedly high demand for ice cream in Fabuland? And what kind of a name is Carljin (sorry, if it's actually someone's name on here... )?
  9. Yay, cross-dressing construction man! Sign me up please. 1. Imperial Soldiers, Dystopia, Eurodina, Bloodbrick, Werewolf, The Forest. 2. No issues there. 3. You just had to label it 'frontpage', didn't you? 4. Uhm, I'm sure you remember us being surrounded by all those 'trustworthy' allies in Bloodbrick?
  10. Congratulations on (another) win Rufus and Ricey. I was away while most of the game was running, so I only really read the final day. And I'm really surprised you managed to pull it off in the end. And Quarry, it certainly was an interesting variation you ran. At least you had no conflicting night actions.
  11. I've seen white bulldogs - the one without the 'eye patch' - in online pictures without any headgear (fire helmet or police hat). For all I know, these figs only come with headgear, so it must be somehow possible to remove it. How much that damages the fig or the headgear, I don't know.
  12. Thanks, but I just follow the examples set by Fabuland master builders such as Sir Nadroj and Hinckley. Thanks. I didn't try other tires, mainly because I didn't have any larger ones in my MOC supply. Thanks. I wasn't actually planning on making it two-toned, but for Fabuland just black and yellow looked a little boring. Thanks. Thanks Rufus. If I'd have more time... and more skill Thanks LuxorV. 'Glass' (transparent pieces) just doesn't have that Fabuland-feel to me, hence the choice for the fence piece. Thanks Cam. No, it's a Ricky Raccoon Custom
  13. There is an earlier version of the postman Fabufig where the hat is a separate piece. It is the same for some fire helmets and (black) police hats. On Bricklink you can see the figs that consist of two pieces (fig and hat) and the figs that are one piece (glued hat).
  14. I saw this on flickr the other day and thought you only photographed it Hinck. Only now do I see it on EB and find out you're partly responsible for this. Both castles are really impressive: the eye for detail on the sandy castle, not only on the outside, but certainly also on the exposed interior, and of course the sheer immenseness of the dark castle. The round tower is a real eye-catcher. I don't think they're even stressed, as they're alternating rows of three headlight bricks and a round 1x1 brick, which then get covered by a 1x4 tile.
  15. Thanks Zeph! Black and yellow looked a little boring, so I added the red. Hood ornament? Well, looks like I achieved what I was aiming for: a somewhat functional look, while retaining the Fabuland feel. I swapped out colors quite often on this one. For example, the grille pieces on the engine looked 'too serious' in gray, so I made them yellow. Thanks Pandora. Sorry I can't offer a lift to a cute Panda. The huge fried-egg taps headlamps were inspired by Hinckley. Thanks Aanchir. I hope I achieved the right balance between (somewhat) realistic and cartoony with all the bright colors.
  16. Fabuland's Ricky Raccoon has a new ride. He has replaced his scooter with a fast new hot rod. Bigger versions of these pictures on flickr.
  17. - Fried-Egg Tap Inventor [ For solving the mystery of the pink curved 1x2 brick with 1x1 yellow round plate in Pandora's review of 6403 Paradise Playground. By Rufus. ] And doesn't anyone update this? I'm on it (in a bit). ... and done!
  18. Looks like the photographer put the slope on backwards.
  19. Another thorough and very entertaining review, Pandora. I always had mixed feelings about Paradisa. Being a few months younger (looking a few years older ) than you are, these sets were also released during my dark ages, but I remember my little cousin owning some sets. The concept of a tropical beach resort is really appealing, but the color scheme always slightly put me off and not because there's too much pink in it (which you show there isn't), but because the pink looks rather dull. Like the old grays the pink in these sets lack some vibrance. I agree the slide could have been 2 studs longer to make it less deadly and the sandpit isn't a particularly exciting 'build'. And I too wonder what the 1x1 rounds are supposed to represent as you can expect nothing but clean white sand in a sunny tropical setting. I never realized there were so many exclusive and rare parts to this set. And three figs in such a small set is a real treat. Considering this, the two small base plates, and other relatively big pieces, I'm not really surprised at the original MRSP. Although pink would have probably looked better, I don't really think the red flowers look out of place here. After all, there's the red 'pirate' torso and the red parrot in the set as well. It's a real shame there were no short legs available back in the days. It's kind of hard to discern the kids from the grown-ups. It's amazing that - again - you're also reviewing the alternate builds. These, along with idea books, where one of my favorite features of classic sets and a I really miss the back-of-the-box alternates. They really stimulated out-of-the-box thinking. Speaking of that, I don't think I've ever seen an alternate being fully SNOT-built. With the base plates up right even. The cafe-with-sandpit ( ) is a pretty nice alternate build. As to your question: the pink curved 1x2 brick certainly looks like a dispenser for something... mustard perhaps? Or it's a yet-to-be-invented fried egg tap...
  20. Sorry, you asked for it. I'd give you a spanner tag if I could.
  21. A ferry barge would really make a nice affordable set for TLG to release. Really nice idea and execution.
  22. I never really had trouble with spanners, they can even be useful to remove tiles from a base plate. Although it could be that they got annoying recently as their monopoly on tile-removal is threatened by the crowbar.
  23. Are you really a Panda? :look:

  24. Mmm, ... dark blue, it looks really good on the plane. And indeed, and interesting technique for the cockpit.
  25. Are you sure you're at step 5 (of the opening post) and not step 4? That is, does the URL you copy into your post actually end in .jpg? When you would copy the URL at step 4, you're copying the reference to a (dynamically generated) HTML page, which is not the URL to an image.
