Heroica RPG - Quest #48: Death's Homecoming
Fugazi replied to Endgame's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Well while we're at it, Romulus I still have one of your weapons, a throwing dagger. I think you should have it back before I forget." Galen hands a Throwing Dagger (WP:6) to Romulus. -

Galen watched the great Progg with sadness. "Yes, we can be blinded by hate just as much as by love. Yours is a really tragic story, Mythrogg. With your permission this should be written down by the Heroica librarian so that everyone can learn from it. Both our people should remember and reflect on how it all came to happen. I understand now why you can't go back to your people. It's terribly sad, and I hope that they will find a way to deal with their freedom and live in peace with the other inhabitants of Uland. Who knows, perhaps one day Proggs will join the ranks of Heroica to fight for a common cause! Farewell, Mythrogg." -

Hearing Sylph's words through the cacophony of his own thoughts, Galen moved closer to the druid and looked at him with tear-flooded eyes. "Don't worry friend, it's been a very long day... And the Regret's parting shot was rather vicious." -

Galen was glad to hear reasonable words from the greatest Progg of all. "Will you be guiding them, Mythrogg? They don't have a home, they don't have leaders, they don't have a mission any longer. They need your help now more than ever. Some are..." Galen stopped and stood motionless, eyes glazed and mouth agape, listening to the whispers in his mind. After a moment, his head dropped and he pulled on the folds of his turban so that they would better conceal his eyes. -

Galen suddenly felt very small. Reality or illusion? He squinted at the beast and glanced at his companions while his brain was taking it all in. He had thought that Mythrogg was short for 'mythical Progg'... But the real meaning of the name was strikingly obvious now. For a fleeting moment Galen wondered how he could chip some mythril off that moving mountain, then thought better of it. "Thanks? I didn't think you would be thankful for us shedding the blood of your people. It's... a relief." -

OoC: Sorry for being out of touch, the last days have been very busy for me! Could the invasion really be over, wondered Galen as the diminished ghost of the Regret flickered above them. The last day had tested their strength, resolve and willpower beyond anything he could have imagined. He needed a stiff drink and a soft bed. Or the opposite, he wasn't feeling picky. "I'm sorry Regret, it would seem that we can't help you. Many more years of self-torture probably lie ahead of you, and I sincerely wish we could have spared you this. Not to mention that I don't wish for humanity to run into you again. I do hope that your children, your people, will know happiness among our people despite our shortcomings. I'm not even begging you to tell me about Brianna. Even if you were feeling generous, I couldn't believe a word of it. Goodbye, Regret. May you find peace in death, sooner than later." -
Heroica RPG - Quest #48: Death's Homecoming
Fugazi replied to Endgame's topic in The Heroica Archive
Galen opened his eyes, and realised that he was lying on the wet roof of the Town Hall while the battle was still going strong around him. Another mishap, another lucky revival. One day his eyes will remain closed and he will stand still, lying on the hard ground of some foreign battlefield until his bones turned to dust. With any luck, before that happened he will have bought himself a little house by the sea where to hang his armour and call it a day. But not before finding out what happened to his sister. She will get me killed, thought Galen wearily. But I owe it to her, but for her I wouldn't be alive myself. Resolute, Galen was back on his feet and ready to finish off the Progg who could reach out to his sister but wouldn't. -
And this despite the extortionate prices in your Town Hall market! True, but divide 4500 gold by what... 180 real-life days of questing... the gold/time ratio is probably similar to that of other rogues. On the other hand, extended battles like Dini Manor help in that I can make money using fewer consumables, as long as I can hold onto the effects. In later battles Endgame made sure that the effects could be lost more easily! I think we haggled and brought the price down to 850. Waste not want not! But I was planning to train for an advanced class.

"And besides Rhodus and Eidolon have caused enough grief to deserve being killed again, if we can. Else they will start plotting their revenge as soon as we look the other way." -

"We were doing well, then Rhodus came along. You were right Sylph, better get rid of all these phantoms rather than risk them coming back to haunt us in the future. Their very survival is an insult to all those they tormented and killed." -

Galen knew that the Regret was playing mind games and that nothing he said could be taken at face value. But... his words evoked an image of his sister on her knees that was so real, so vivid... Perhaps an image stolen by that monster from his own memories, but still Galen was shaken. Why didn't the Regret just tell him that she was dead? Did he still cherish the idea that he could turn Galen against his party? "That's not the way of the world, I'm afraid. Forget arithmetic, the only truth is entropy. Throw as much magic at it as you like, entropy will still get you when you're looking the other way. Someone as old as you should know it -- unless you have gone out of your mind." -

"This is the stuff legends are made of! See Regret, you don't stand a chance, Lady Luck is on our side." "Sylph, we don't even need to get rid of the phantoms -- without the Regret, they're powerless." -

"You may well be immortal, Regret, but there must be a way to render you harmless. Perhaps preventing you from stealing another body, who knows? We will find your weakness, even if we must kill you ten times in the process. We will prevail, and you know it." Galen's bravado was only a front, but he hoped to sound convincing nevertheless. "Oh? That's new. And who do you think will give you love and happiness? Is there a higher being who can realise your impossible dream? Or are you just badly deluded?" -

Despite a sore head and blood oozing from many wounds, Galen tried to analyse their predicament. "Even heavily defended, the remaining claw is still the weakest part of the Regret and our best target strategically. It won't be easy though. Maybe a bit of poison would help?" -

Galen never saw the tail coming to grab him, and whatever happened to his body in the following seconds was just a blur. Regaining conscience moments after with a splitting headache and a weakened body, his only comfort was the hovering presence of Alexandre's guardian angel. "You're still with us, I see. Hope you stick around because I have a feeling that this battle will last forever, unless the Regret dies crushed under the weight of his own smugness." -
Eurobricks Mafia II: Mafia School: Conclusion
Fugazi replied to def's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Thank you for an entertaining game def! From a player perspective I found that being a vanilla was especially difficult in this context, but from an outsider perspective the game had a good pace and every day had good moments. I deliberately avoided the dead board -- having been killed so early I decided that I would just follow the game and keep guessing. Congrats to all the players, both scum and town did very well! I can't say the same for myself, crossing the fine line between suspicious and scummy. I gambled that the vig wouldn't kill me over those tells, and lost. Not my best moment for sure!- 85 replies

Heroica RPG - Quest #48: Death's Homecoming

Galen stands up painfully and pauses to gather his wits. "It's a miracle that none of us have been knocked out this time... Though we're in pretty rough shape. I can help with grand potions if need be, and I have a cast as well but it does slow one down while they're wearing it."
