New Lego Advertising campaign "Imagine!

Sorry folks, I was daydreaming! Or just dreaming perhaps, did I snore? Oh of course, here is the clue I received. Since Chris and I had clues from the third puddle of blood that pointed to either Siegourney or Sheldon, I wanted one more clue in the hope that it would solve the puzzle. What I found in the puddle was a strand of dark orange hair. Now I wasn't sure if I wanted to share this with you right away, because I don't know what it means. But let's see what you make of it. There were actually 4 members of the last party in our visions, but I think god made it clear that this is not what we should be looking for. You mean that the blood is imaginary and points to future events yet to happen? It's worth considering. If the clues don't point to the demon, they might point to the demon's future victims. So every time we correctly identify a victim, we can scratch a name from the suspect list. The more victims we find, the best chance we have at nailing the demon. Pure conjecture at this point, of course. Perhaps the monk will be so kind as to enlighten us some more next time he's around. Right, I get to vote too. I nominate: Vote: Chris Owen (Tamamono) Vote: Sylvia Berent (Zepher) Vote: Fred Thomas (CorneliusMurdock) I know, it's always the same people but they've all been fairly active and are open to sharing their clues. If one of them is lying to us, we'll figure out soon enough.

Hasbro has the license for Trek construction toys, which as far as I know doesn't overlap with what Diamond is selling. But I agree, the Kre-o sets will probably focus on the upcoming movie since the target age group doesn't even know there was Trek before the reboot!

Oh Ingrid, while you're in the boat maybe you should go investigate those pillars in the middle of the pool, who knows what we could find! Actually, maybe we can both fit in the boat -- I'll do the rowing and you can check out the pillars!

You are right that the few projects that really seem to lift off are supported en masse by non-AFOL. Success appears to be driven by word of mouth outside Cuusoo: when a company/fan community/blog/official channel hears about a Lego product proposal related to their brand/interest, they publicise the project and the votes start turning in. Lame Star Wars minifig packs in infinite combinations are the exception -- I would say that 90% of Cuusoo 'resident' users are 13-16 year old SW fans, and any SW project will have their support regardless of quality. Other projects, including many amazing AFOL-designed pitches, have very slim chances of making it if they're not about a popular franchise -- TV, Hollywood, computer games, etc. As for novel parts proposals, they're just not sexy enough to make it -- I won't hold my breath for new parts being introduced through Cuusoo. So I don't think Cuusoo is geared to cater to the wishes of AFOL. It's more of a clever way to attract fans from outside the normal Lego fan base, so I see no reason for Lego to pull the plug on Cuusoo. I'm sure that projects will keep reaching the 10,000 required votes, but I don't expect many of them to be 'unbranded' MOCs supported only by the AFOL community.

Bitter-sweet news for Star Trek fans -- Hasbro/Kre-O has managed to pick up the Star Trek license, with sets coming out in 2013. It's not exactly fresh news, but I don't think it had been mentioned here before. Toy Fair 2012: Hasbro Acquires STAR TREK License Despite my disappointment that it's not Lego ST, I do look forward to seeing the designs Kre-O will come up with and whether they will need to create special parts to faithfully recreate the details of the ST ships and settings. So I guess we're not about to get anything like this...

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 7 poll
Fugazi replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I am very happy for Lego to come up with a bagpiper, for sentimental reasons! It's not a very useful (polyvalent) minifig, but like the Statue of Liberty and many others it would never had been made were it not for the CMF series. The major strength of the CMF concept in my opinion are the exclusive accessories, and for that reason I don't mind the series to go on indefinitely. -

LDD Design Challenge #5
Fugazi replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thank you. This explains why rotating the assembly to achieve a different offset from the one 'built-in' is not possible in LDD. My mistake. I offset a row of new macaroni under one of old macaroni, but offsetting two rows of new macaroni proved impossible indeed! -

Do you mean the Hinge Tool? Or is there another rotation tool I don't know about? I'm really a noob at LDD. -

Yes, I tried both types with the same result. -
LDD Design Challenge #5
Fugazi replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I'm sorry to bump an old topic, but this seemed like the most appropriate place to ask. Regarding the macaroni stack described above, it can be seen that the levels are stacked unevenly -- this can be clearly seen in the captures below: Compare the angle covered on the yellow part with that on the purple part. This happens even if I use the latest version of the macaroni, with extra bracing inside. Such a strange offset wouldn't even be possible with real bricks. Is there any way to stack the macaroni so that the offset between each level is exactly 45 degrees? I am trying to use this technique to achieve a 45 degree shift in stud orientation on a cylinder, but the actual angle achieved (50-something degrees) is useless for my purpose. Any ideas? -
Now, that is cake! Happy birthday guys!

And sometimes it's spelt Cuusoo, right? Now it all makes sense! -
Thanks for the refreshing review, Siegfried (and Walrus Keeper! ) The detailed pictures of the real building are totally worth the effort! I will echo the views of previous posters that this is a great added bonus to an Architecture line review. As for the design, it's not shabby at all given the scale and available parts. I guess this was designed with a specific price point (or part usage?) in mind and as such is a successful reproduction of the Opera House. Like many I wish in time there could be a bigger scale model of the same, but in the meantime I would certainly buy this one if I had any 'special connection' with the building.

Great theme month idea, I like the unexpected! I can't wait to see what you guys have in store for us. While I don't own any of the Architecture sets, I think that some great quality models have been released over the years. I think no one mentioned it yet, the buiding contest picture is just wow! I don't even understand what the light source is!

LEGO® CUUSOO 空想 - Turn your model wishes into reality
Fugazi replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That, and if I remember correctly both the Shinkai and the Hayabusa projects were heavily supported by the employees of the agencies who commissioned the real 'vehicles'. Anyway, here's an extract from the CUUSOO (updated) guidelines clarifying what a CUUSOO project should be. I don't think the guidelines as they stand encourage projects not supported by actual Lego builds, unless it's a new part proposal. -
LEGO® CUUSOO 空想 - Turn your model wishes into reality
Fugazi replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I think you can still find the early concepts on CUUSOO Japan, as far as I can remember in both cases the original pitches were relatively close to the final product -- in size at least, while the style was nicely refined by the Lego designers. You raise good questions, and I wish TLG would make clearer what they expect of CUUSOO users. Many different types of proposals are being made: - detailed MOCs, where the designer probably expects the final product to be identical or very similar. - theme suggestions, either licensed or freelance. - specific products: reissues of past sets, minifig buckets, part packs, motors, etc. I find that proposals not based on an actual MOC are not numerous -- or at least, they don't seem to attract as many votes as those supported by a build. Perhaps the reason why TLG has not made the CUUSOO rules clearer is because themselves aren't sure how the users would rather use it? CUUSOO is still in beta, and perhaps sometime down the road a 'definitive' CUUSOO will assert its mission much more clearly -- when TLG figures out what will work best for everyone. -
Have a great birthday Fangy! May you be buried under new Lego!
