Avalonia Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion
ZCerberus replied to Derfel Cadarn's topic in Guilds of Historica
Duplo works too for large underbellies. I also NEVER use Megabloks, not even inside the MOC. My rainbow bricks are red, yellow, orange and lime green on occasion. -
Very nice, and great for explaining what the guilds are. That is a good thought! I would hope it would be more like the crazy super chess set that came out a few years ago and not so much like the recent kingdoms one.

Cool elemental gabe. For whatever reason, it reminds me of an armadillo! I like the shape/proportions on it. Spot on. -

You need to have an elemental monster and it has to be an action scene. Your elemental monster can be causing a natural disaster as part of the action scene. -
Lack of pieces can surely be a trump card!

A good second effort. Nice improvements. I don't know the size of your collection, so just a few general tips... 1) color. If you are going for a "real word" feel think about the materials that the real object would be made of and go from there. The tan layer of plates for example would be better if they were dark brown instead. 2) landscape/topography. The house is the main draw, but nature rarely does flat and barren. Add terrain and plant life or some man made elements like a fence or road. I think that was what S&C were getting at. Keep on improving and in a few MOCs you'll get the hang of it.

No parts are absolutely required, but each guild does have a general building style/location. Much of Kaliphlin is in the desert, but not all of it, so that is something to consider. You can join any guild and make it work. Kaliphlin is a great choice. -

grumble... sorry, but no requests for "bonus titles" keep it to the "challenge titles" listed in the first post of the thread like "High Chief of Agriculture" for now. Remember, those challenge titles are designed to improve your skills so you can score us some points on free builds and in challenges. Use them to bulk up your skillz! Also, the second link is not to one of your MOCs We may see a rash of bonus titles eventually, but for now, just the title challenge entries that DC may have missed while he was working like a dog! -

And therefore no requests! But you have done a great job with the map. I think we should link/put it in the first post. -

Guildsmen, as you may have noticed, DC has been REALLY busy lately, but he has not forgotten us! He has, however, fallen behind in keeping mini challenge titles up to date. If you think you made an entry for a title challenge but have NOT received your title in the first post of the guildthread, post a link to the entry now and we'll see what we can do to fix that! Do NOT make requests for bonus titles as that will likely just aggrevate our Lord Rex. -

ha ha ha ha. That is totally funny. I think we need to just put that issue to rest. Everything's cool. -
Dr Rod's expanded watchtower - Rakath Mtns

I noticed at BrickWorld that many castle builders just build massive scale but quite simple (i.e. tall but boring) walls and the like. I like that there is some suttle variation in your build with the two shades of dark gray. I also like the rock work on this one. It looks very nice. Overall, great work! -

I think Mikey's point is a good one. We can have forests and smaller rivers in our MOCs without needeing constant revisions to the map. That will help our map makers if they only need to make revisions for larger issues. -
Sorry for the small delay- but this cool creation should be on Classic-Pirates.com soon!

Looks good! I would love to see a picture of the back of the gatehouse/wall to see the action there. The sign for BW was actually made by rogueang. He ran out to a PAB wall and got the bricks for us. We certainly need a bigger GoH table next year at BW 2013. My Midwestern American friends-- we need to plan something far more grand for BW 2013! We also need a nice info sign like Ecc had here. -

Yes, DC came on the forum after me, yet I would agree he is totally an inspirational builder. I need to learn from his insane organizational skills so I can pump out builds as quickly as he does! maydayartist's build is also pretty wicked. He seems to be improvinghis landscape all the time as well. These are things everyone builder regardless of experience struggles with at times! Also, if you do build your village, keep elevation in mind as well. Nature doesn't do flat too well (unless you live in eastern North Dakota), so a natural landscpae will have hills and valleys and curved waterways. Just something to get the brain working! -

Okay- I think stacking cheese slopes is an "illegal" technique. There are other common things we do that stress bricks that are "illegal" in the sense that LEGO would never use them in an official set because of the stress on the bricks. I bet we ALL use a LOT of "illegal" techniques so like meph, I don't give a megablocks if it is legal or not so long as it looks good and stays together without cutting or gluing. BTW- the swear filter can pick up whatever words the powers that be choose. I think people may have noticed that on April 1st some non-swear words may have been caught by the filter. There are certain users who bypass the filter. These members SHOULD know better than to swear in the forums though. I certainly don't think what BB said was inflamatory, so I think we all need to give him a . He was NOT insulting meph and in this case we need to give him a break. I also agree, good work with the map! I don't know about every border, but Mesodraconem is right where it is supposed to be! -

You're becoming quite the builder meph! I can tell with a ton of bricks you would be a building BEAST! I however, don't love the look of all the cheese walls. I like the design under the windows with the tan and red, but I am not a huge fan of the walls with the "arrow" look. I liked the pattern on the Black Widow Inn, but here it just seems too busy to me. That may be just my personal taste, but I would keep in mind that not every building needs to be really ornate. You did a good job with some interesting shapes on the first two builds, and that appeals to me more than a lot of decoration. Just a thought. Besides DC's awesome build, I would also check out what maydayartist is doing in the history forum with his big landscape build. I also keep a decent number of builds intact. In fact, from Historica, I have only dismantled Rossen Manor and the tree house from "Forgotten House". That means still in one piece right now... Very nice. I like mostly everything that you've done here. I like the coloration and the texture on the building. Nice details with the windows and I appreciate that you always put energy into making an interior. Looks like your stairs could use a little detailing though, but that is a tiny nitpick. Great work man! (dG... I have a few falcons who might make it into a future build. They are a cool torso to be sure!) -
