I thought so. It was just so cute! I read that books ages ago, and yet after taking even a brief look at it I knew what it was! Great work.

"Ill" is a code word people! Some of your classic-pirates.com crew helped with this display, so an extra victory for us! Cam took the pictures and kept us all entertained. darkdragon contributed the Lord of Flies island (right?) and helped us set everything up. I contributed several of the village houses to the layout and the modifed Imperial flagship that is being attacked by tenticles. I also posed the figs on the fort, but the fort was built by another member. We had a bunch of history and sci-fi members contirbute as well. I don't want to try to mention everyone incase I forget someone (there was like 20 of us), but Rufus and Pandora and Si-MOCs all had individual nominations (and 1 win) on the layout for their individual contributions. Big props to Stash2Sixx for being the main man organizing the build for us as well. I don't think we will be rolling with pirates for next year's display, so anyone thinking of contributing may need to branch out.

I was about to say-- I recognized some of that stuff! Though I think we used a lot of the same techniques, this still has a different feel from the Great Gatehouse. On those crossbow/arrow slit/cross windows, on later versions I went with 1 x 2 and 1 x 1 cheese slopes. Not only does it remove the little line between the tile and the plate, but it also gives a little more textural intrigue. I love the length of the bridge. This is more like what I would have liked to do with the Albion bridge had it not been for the BrickWorld size restriction. I also like that it is not perfectly symmetrical. Dude- I have SOOOOOOO many dark tan 2 x 2 tiles. PaB has been packed with them. If you want some faster, PM me and we might be able to work something out!

Well I did invent the spy glass after all hee hee- I don't mean to bust your chops- but you have to look hard to make improvements suggestions when the builder is as talented as you are! You are also an excellent photographer. Where is your photo taking location of choice? I still struggle with the lighting sometimes, so I am trying to get a feel for what some of the better photo takers have learned. Do you use "fill" lights?

Very nice. This matches your style and your guild very nicely. I also like that you added just a little bit of wall texture. It is a good addition. I love the dark brown you are sticking with. It is a great color. I look forward to seeing your layout expand. One question... How did the archers get to the archway above the door? Ladders? Just curious.

Yes. Though you should view each task as a way to test and improve your building skills, and not just a "check the box" type activitiy! You can "free build" anything you want. Jason updates our map, and he placed the watch towers near where people had settlements. I think we have a map somewhere that lists the general territories people have developed. My lands for example are just south of the capital city of Albion in a river delta.

1. We are never afraid of the Drow. 2. Wood is abundant in Avalonia and easy to replace. 3. We have lots of water to dowse the wood with. It is not too easy to set ablaze.

The drawbridge to the Great Gatehouse of Albion comes down where the bridge ends. You may be able to see it some from here, a teaser taken with my iPhone
