My last and final Brickbeard's Bounty MoD! (Thanks, Rick!)
Rick replied to Ivan K.'s topic in Pirate MOCs
..., and the railing with the gold round plates also turned out really nice. -
I was thinking about that as well while writing my earlier post: sets tended to 'last longer' in the 80s. The new sets every year could be close to the numbers we're seeing nowadays. Still, I have the idea there was more continuity in a single line back then. The modular aspect certainly added to the continuity of the line. I was hoping the same would happen in Pirates when they released the Soldier's Fort last year, but then they decided to put the line 'on hold'.

The mix of these 'unconvential' colors actually works surprisingly well. The bottom and top floors are my favorite.

Those are really nice ideas. A Creator type set could indeed be used as a good Castle parts pack and because none of the pieces are really specific, building ideas shouldn't be hard to come up with. The modularity of the 80s Castle sets was indeed a great 'collection' feature (you could expand your castle set-by-set). The castle minifig packs of those days also were great. Three figs from each side (like the 80s sets) or a set of civilians would be great. In general, compared to the 80s, the breath of lines has decreased. There used to be at least double the amount of sets out at any one given time, typically much more small- and mid-sized sets used to be available. But with the many more different themes TLG currently carries, I wouldn't get my hopes up for more sets in any one theme.

Don't worry: no more competition... Since I've read the vacancy last night (in Europe), I've seriously considered signing up as a candidate, but I feel it should be someone for whom Pirates is the #1 theme. For me Town will always (well, I guess I should never say that) be the #1 theme, Pirates being #2 obviously. So, I'm happy to see that by now already some real Pirate-heads (and an excellent Pirates creative critic ), some who also actively build Pirates MOCs themselves, have expressed their interest. So, good luck to all the candidates and lots of 'wisdom' to the Classic-Pirates crew in selecting their new blogger! Maybe next time

Oh... and here's the Brickshelf gallery from someone who seems to build 5-wide sometimes too. You're just modest I think a good mix of 4-, 5-, 6-, and 7-wide vehicles makes for a nice selection of different sizes of minifig-scale cars. I knew those were on your flickr account somewhere. Thanks for linking to them.

Thanks for those links LLP! The new torso looks promising (and specifically female(?)). They given the pigs eyes. I didn't see those on the preliminary images.
-
There's an even simpler way to achieve 5-wide. Using this wheel holder. (It has a half stud offset to both sides, which combined with 1 stud wide wheels, results in 5-wide). Furthermore, this wheel holder, combined with these wheels, also results in 5-wide, since the wheels are about 1.5 studs wide.

"Ralph S" is the master of 5- and 7-stud Lego cars. He'll be able to give you some tips. However, I can tell you it involves a lot of small plates (1 x 1, 1 x 2, 1 x 3) and jumper plates to 'convert' things back to standard 4- and 6-stud wide Lego pieces. Probably you found these already, but here are some links to Ralph S' creations: flickr and Brickshelf.

Ok, so I'm allowed to comment? (Wouldn't it make sense to move this into the 'general' forum then?) On-topic: Given the choice I'd prefer the rounded torsos.

Where did you hear/read that? The 2010 Farmer impulse set is a City set.

Look to the left of your post. It lists your member number under 'Member Number:" edit: Looks like you found out...

Those last two pictures don't seem to be too Lego-related To embed your images, just click on the button while making/editing your post and copy/past the URL of the image in. Or type [ i m g ] image URL goes here [ / i m g ] (you have to get rid of all the space in the tags though, but I had to type them otherwise no text shows up here). That said: I like the classic look of your ship and the abundance of white in the color scheme.

Welcome, great that this topic made you sign up to Eurobricks. You may want to introduce yourself by starting a topic here. How can you be disgusted by Lego?

That's Creator, although - as with the Modulars - I buy these Creator houses for 'Town purposes' as well. If we'd leave the Creator and Modular houses out, then I'd definitely have to go with the City Corner. But overal, I think TLG has been on the right track ever since they released 'World City'. In my opinion that wasn't so bad as many of you seem to think. The police set with the 4WD and surveillance van wasn't too bad, just like the big surveillance truck (they had car doors!). As of 2005 (the birth of the new 'City' theme), the sets have gotten better and better in terms of design and in the last few years also in terms of 'themes' covered. This doesn't mean I like every single set that comes out, but as far as I like 1/3 of what comes out, I'm happy. That way it's also a little friendlier on my bank account. In terms of the exclusives, the last few years have absolutely been spectacular. This is a great time to be an AFOL and I'm happy and thankful to have to resources to basically - within limits - buy what I like. I remember that in the late 1990s/early 2000s when I started waking from Lego hibernation, I was 'forced' to buy certain sets (like Island Xtreme Stunts) that were still somewhat decent (compared to the horrid Town Jr. offerings). Now there's actually a choice to be made, what to buy and what not. I certainly hope TLG continues the trend it has started in 2003 (or 2005, however you view it) and we're bound to see many amazing sets. Hopefully from both the 'City' and the 'Exclusives' departments.

Those are Euro (€) prices. Last time I checked, they didn't use dollars in Italy
-
I like the story of the classic versus the modern imperials and the pirates' generations getting along.
-
Nice review, although your pictures could use some more light here and there. The Western minifigs are really nice, although I don't like that they've given the Native Americans and some of the villains 'noses', which not many other minifigs have.

Yup! Welcome to Eurobricks. Enjoy!

For reference and to prevent a continued discussion on this issue here, there's a thread on the issue of Eurobrick's target age group.

Hmmm, someone already typed what I wanted to say

Nice train. Good color choices. Well done!
-
The color scheme is really nice. I like that you made the steps yellow. The step design is used by TLG on the orange truck in 7686.
-
The color scheme you chose is great. This is what an AFOL space theme would look like.
